Job Summary
Firefighter-Paramedic duties include climbing ladders to access upper levels, creating openings for ventilation or entry, selecting and directing water streams, protecting property, administering first aid and CPR, responding to alarms, communicating with supervisors via two-way radio, establishing fire lines, and operating firefighting vehicles and equipment. Requires physical and technical abilities such as endurance, strength, coordination, rapid decision-making, and effective communication. Requires U.S. residency in Illinois, high school diploma or GED, valid IDPH Paramedic License or active enrollment, valid Illinois driver’s license, CPAT and Ladder Climb Certificate within the relevant dates, and eligibility requirements including age-related constraints; testing through National Testing Network and submission of required documents by the stated deadline.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid IDPH Paramedic License or proof of current enrollment in a paramedic program with anticipated completion date
- Valid driver’s license (Illinois)
- Residency in Illinois by date of hire
- CPAT and Ladder Climb Certificate dated 6/26/2025 – 6/26/2026
- National Testing Network membership fee (if not already a member) and testing
