Job Summary
Firefighter/Paramedic with the Batavia Fire Department performs full-time firefighting and emergency medical/paramedic duties. Responsibilities include responding to fire alarms and medical emergencies, selecting and deploying hose lines, ladder operations, ventilation, forcible entry, and utility safeguards; providing basic life support, coordinating with regional paramedic services, assisting in patient transport, operating and maintaining fire apparatus, and participating in training and community safety programs. Requires U.S. citizenship, a high school diploma or GED, a valid Illinois driver’s license, and appropriate certifications (Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter; EMT-Paramedic) with CPAT and ladder-climb within the prior year. Physical and medical requirements and the agency’s testing process apply, along with adherence to municipal codes and employment procedures. Position is full-time with a 24/48 shift schedule and eligible benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending, health savings accounts, pension/retirement plans, and related worker protections.
Required Qualifications
- United States Citizen
- High School Graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Be at least twenty (20) years of age by the last date for filing applications, although must have attained the age of twenty-one (21) to receive appointment
- Be no older than thirty-five (35) years of age at time of appointment
- Must have a current State of Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter certification
- Be an EMT/Paramedic licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) at time of appointment
- Must have successfully completed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), and ladder climb certification, within the 12 months prior to being eligible for hire
