Job Summary

Fire Watch / Tank Watch Specialist aboard U.S. Navy vessels and facilities focuses on safety during hot work and confined-space operations. Responsibilities include maintaining continuous watch, verifying permits and gas-free certificates, monitoring atmospheric conditions, controlling access, stopping work for unsafe conditions, operating and inspecting fire extinguishers, sounding alarms, coordinating with the Officer of the Deck, and maintaining comprehensive logs. Requires adherence to NAVSEA/OSHA procedures, NAVSEA standards, and 29 CFR 1915 Subpart P; includes toolbox talks and pre/post-job briefs. Must be a U.S. citizen with a Secret clearance and have completed listed safety trainings and certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Shipyard Mandatory Annual Training
  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Security and Access Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass all background, drug, and security checks
  • Must possess a Secret Clearance
  • Prior experience as a Fire Watch, Tank Watch, or Preservation Laborer in a shipyard or industrial environment (at least 1 year)
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items
