Fire Sprinkler Layout Technician Trainee

Job Summary

Draft sprinkler designs and hydraulic calculations in compliance with NFPA standards, building codes, and underwritten requirements. Coordinate pipe drawings, heads, hangers, and other components for both complex and non-complex projects while resolving trade conflicts. Operate AutoCAD and AutoSPRINK software to produce accurate drawings, material pick-offs, and submittals. Conduct field surveys to obtain dimensions and information, then estimate and schedule design hours within project budgets. Complete project paperwork including test papers, insurance permits, and punch lists while troubleshooting potential issues before they manifest. Travel to job sites by vehicle or plane to support design and service customers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Ability to conduct a field survey to obtain all proper dimensions and information
  • Ability to travel to job sites by plane or vehicle
  • A commitment to learn and show initiative in completing the training program
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results
  • Building positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management

  • Understanding of addition and subtraction, simple math, advanced math (Calculus, Algebra, & Geometry), simple drawings, technical reports, technical instructions, layout work, simple memos, and business letters
  • Ability to write or present simple memos, summaries, business letters, and technical reports

Desired Qualifications

  • Engineering background
  • Knowledge of Hydratec or AutoSPRINK programs
  • NICET Certification
