Job Summary
Fire Safety Officer role within the Sydney Opera House, responsible for preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from site-related emergencies. Undertakes fire safety activities including inspection and advising on fire and safety matters. Requires experience with fire prevention/protection, monitoring safety and fire suppression systems, delivery of WHS training, First Aid/Advanced Resuscitation qualifications, and strong stakeholder liaison and communication skills to achieve regulatory compliance. Includes 24-hour coverage and ability to respond to emergencies, with a focus on safety management and building inspections. Full-time position based in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Eligible applicants must have Australian work rights and will undergo a National Police Check and Pre-Employment Health Assessment.
Required Qualifications
- Experience and skill in fire prevention/protection with demonstrated expertise in the use of fire fighting and safety equipment
- Demonstrated ability to monitor safety, fire detection, emergency warning, suppression systems and equipment, and to develop solutions to achieve compliance with legislation, codes, and standards
- Qualifications and/or experience in First Aid (or higher) with demonstrated ability to undertake Advanced Resuscitation
- Qualifications and/or experience in delivery training to small groups and Work Health and Safety (WHS)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels to gain compliance and develop constructive solutions, brief and train stakeholders, conduct efficient first response operations and coordinate people in emergencies
- Ability to work as a team, interpret complex situations and provide effective service with 24 hour coverage
- Practical experience in responding to emergency situations with the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Australian work rights; satisfactory Police Check and Pre-Employment Health Assessment
