Job Summary
Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency medical service calls, performing suppression, rescue, and salvage operations while providing basic and advanced life support. Operate, drive, and maintain firefighting and EMS apparatus; conduct fire prevention inspections and assist with fire investigations. Deliver public fire safety education and participate in departmental training sessions alongside routine clerical duties. Requires Virginia EMT-I or EMT-P certification, high school diploma, and eligibility for physical and certification standards. Full-time role with on-call rotation and hazardous condition exposure.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to meet all Fire and Rescue Department training, physical, and certification requirements
- Eligibility to obtain Virginia EMT-I or EMT-P certification (for EMS assignments)
- Knowledge of firefighting principles, emergency medical services, fire prevention, hydraulics, and incident command
- Ability to operate firefighting and EMS equipment safely
- Strong communication, decision-making, teamwork, and public interaction skills
- Ability to perform effectively under hazardous and emergency conditions
