Job Summary

Lead the design and development of industrial fire protection systems for hydroelectric generating stations, including sprinkler networks, detection alarms, and water supply piping. Act as Engineer/Professional of Record by preparing, reviewing, and sealing engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications. Perform hazard analyses, code compliance reviews, and field investigations to support capital projects, asset management, and lifecycle replacements. Mentor junior engineers while reviewing consultant and contractor work to ensure safety and reliability across multidisciplinary teams. Travel to stations throughout British Columbia as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience (E4 level)
  • Experience designing fire protection systems within industrial, utility, power generation, mining, oil & gas, or other heavy industrial facilities
  • Experience delivering projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning
  • Strong understanding of fire protection engineering principles, applicable codes, and industry standards
  • Experience applying NFPA 850
  • Experience applying NFPA 13
  • Experience applying NFPA 25
  • Experience applying NFPA 15
  • Experience applying NFPA 20
  • Experience applying NFPA 22
  • Experience applying ASME B31.1
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72
  • Knowledge of CAN/ULC-S524
  • Knowledge of CAN/ULC-S1001
  • Knowledge of British Columbia Building, Fire, and Electrical Codes
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Experience with Navisworks
  • Experience with Autodesk ReCap
  • Experience with AutoSPRINK
  • Experience with HydraCAD
  • Experience with ELITE
  • Experience with HASS (or equivalent)
  • Strong technical and analytical problem-solving abilities
  • Sound engineering judgement and risk-based decision making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills
  • High degree of ownership, accountability, and initiative
  • Commitment to engineering excellence and continuous improvement
  • Valid P.Eng
  • Must obtain a Permit to Practice through EGBC if offered
  • Safety-sensitive position
