Fire Protection Engineer

Job Summary

Perform fire hazard analyses, risk evaluations, and engineering calculations for nuclear facility upgrades and modifications. Provide technical expertise for fire detection, suppression, and passive fire protection system design while evaluating impacts on safety-related and non-safety-related systems. Interpret NRC requirements, NFPA codes, and industry guidance to develop technical reports, specifications, and procedures. Support deterministic and risk-informed analyses, system testing, and engineering design reviews. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical issues and support regulatory, licensing, and audit activities. Fully remote with minimal travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Professional experience in fire protection engineering, nuclear power, nuclear facilities, industrial fire protection, or another highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, including fire detection and suppression systems, passive fire protection, fire barriers, and fire risk assessment
  • Familiarity with applicable fire protection codes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • Strong engineering analysis, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
  • Ability to interpret technical and regulatory requirements and apply sound engineering judgment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Minimal; occasional site travel may be required

Desired Qualifications

  • Nuclear power plant or other nuclear facility experience
  • Experience with NRC fire protection requirements and nuclear licensing bases
  • Familiarity with NFPA 805, Appendix R, or related nuclear fire protection requirements
  • Experience with Fire PRA, probabilistic risk assessment, fire modeling, or risk-informed engineering
  • Experience with fire protection system design, testing, inspection, or maintenance
  • Experience supporting nuclear facility modifications or engineering change packages
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections, audits, or licensing activities
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety, defense-in-depth, and safety-related design requirements
