Job Summary
Prepare Code Studies, Life Safety Plans, and fire suppression contract documents for complex projects. Evaluate site water supplies for fire suppression systems and assist with egress, construction types, and barrier selection. Review sprinkler and fire alarm shop drawings, perform CFD and egress modeling, and integrate fire protection systems with architectural and engineering disciplines. Lead meetings with clients, code officials, and stakeholders to negotiate fire protection and life safety code issues. Travel regionally, nationally, and internationally to support project requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer in at least one state with suitable credentials for registration in other states
- Experience in analysis and/or design of building fire safety systems
- Experience in code consulting with ICC and NFPA 101
- Demonstrated knowledge and design skills in suppression and detection
- Working knowledge of relevant software, including Office Suite, FDS, Autocad/Revit
- Experience with ICC (IBC, IFC) model building codes and NFPA 13, 72, etc.
- Sprinkler design experience
- Management knowledge and application
- Technical knowledge and application
- Computer analysis skills
- Travel regionally, nationally and internationally in support of project requirements
Desired Qualifications
- 5 to 10 years of related experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with Building and Fire Codes
- Prior use of CFD and Egress modeling (FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder)
- Smoke control design experience
- Structural fire analysis experience
