Fire Protection Engineer

Job Summary

Develop fire protection and life safety design deliverables for industrial facilities, including studies, calculations, specifications, drawings, and construction packages. Evaluate fire hazards, design suppression systems, perform hydraulic calculations, and review fire alarm requirements in coordination with multi-discipline teams. Conduct code reviews against NFPA standards, IBC, and local AHJ requirements while supporting procurement, bid evaluations, and vendor documentation. Coordinate technical specifications with process, mechanical, and structural disciplines, and participate in site walks, design reviews, and construction support activities. Maintain commitment to health, safety, and environmental requirements during project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in Fire Protection Engineering, preferably supporting industrial, manufacturing, refinery, chemical, or other process facility projects
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Fire Protection PE license required
  • RSO Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain
  • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain
  • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain
  • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification
  • Participation in random drug and alcohol program
  • Authorization to work in the US without the need for sponsorship
  • Ability to be badged and maintain a badge as a safety sensitive position and/or within the Building and Construction trade for process safety management governed facilities
  • This position is subject to federally mandated drug/alcohol testing
  • This will require in-depth drug screening for all positions
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays
  • Candidates will be required to follow our clients' site based rules and protocols regarding infectious diseases
  • All opportunities with Eichleay will require authorization to work in the US without the need for sponsorship
  • Positions will require in-person interactions and may require working onsite in an office or field environment
  • This position is fully remote
  • Preference will be given to candidates located within 50 miles of an Eichleay office (Larkspur, CA; Orange, CA; Billings, MT; or Ferndale, WA) to support occasional in-person collaboration
  • Occasionally travel to Eichleay offices and client sites across the Western US (up to 10%)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating with AHJs, insurance representatives, vendors, contractors, and client site safety teams
  • Experience leading or checking fire protection design work performed by engineers, designers, or contractors
  • CFPS, NICET, or other relevant fire protection certification preferred but not required
