Job Summary
Fire Protection Engineer with 5+ years of experience in fire protection or life safety engineering, focused on code interpretation and design across a range of facilities. Responsible for developing performance-based design narratives and life safety code reports, preparing design scopes and conceptual layouts for sprinkler and fire alarm systems, performing hydraulic sprinkler calculations, and coordinating design with CAD/Revit teams. Works with AHJs, architects, and clients; conducts field verifications and QA/QC, participates in internal design reviews, and mentors junior staff in code application and system layout. Projects include aircraft hangars and aviation facilities, high-piled storage warehouses, data centers, healthcare, institutional, and other mission-critical facilities. Requires familiarity with NFPA, IBC, IFC (and related standards), CAD/Revit, HydraCAD/AutoSPRINK/AlarmCAD/Bluebeam, and strong organizational/communication skills. Typical office split is 75% office / 25% travel onsite.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fire protection or life safety engineering
- NICET Level II or higher in Sprinkler or Fire Alarm Systems (preferred)
- CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist)
- PE (Fire Protection) license or in-progress pursuit welcome
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit preferred
- Knowledge of NFPA, IBC, IFC, FM Global standards
- Ability to perform code research and apply findings to design deliverables
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Hydraulic calculation methods and software tools
