Job Summary

Fire Protection Engineer role focused on independent code interpretation, narrative development, and design of sprinkler and alarm systems for complex occupancies. Responsibilities include researching NFPA, IBC, IFC, and FM Global standards; developing performance-based design stories and life-safety reports; preparing design scopes and conceptual layouts; performing/validating hydraulic sprinkler calculations; coordinating with CAD/Revit-enabled design teams; assisting with permit submissions; liaising with architects, AHJs, clients, and contractors; conducting field verifications and QA/QC; participating in design reviews; and mentoring junior staff in code application and system layouts. Projects span aircraft hangars, high-piled storage warehouses, data centers, healthcare, industrial facilities, hazardous materials storage, and renewable energy installations. Core skills include code interpretation, life-safety analysis, hydraulic calculations, AutoCAD, Revit, and strong written communication; minimum 5 years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection or related discipline; NICET and CFPS credentials are preferred and PE license in progress is welcomed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fire protection or life safety engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline (Mechanical, Civil, etc.); equivalent industry experience will be considered
  • NICET Level I - IV certification is preferred
  • NICET Level II or higher in Sprinkler or Fire Alarm Systems
  • CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist)
  • PE (Fire Protection) license or in-progress pursuit
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit preferred
  • Ability to perform code research and apply findings to design deliverables
  • Knowledge of hydraulic calculation methods and software tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with CAD and/or Revit for design coordination
  • Ability to mentor junior staff

Desired Qualifications
