Fire Protection - Designer

Job Summary

Independently develop, maintain, and coordinate fire protection system designs and BIM models using Revit for industrial, commercial, manufacturing, healthcare, and mission-critical facilities. Prepare construction documents including drawings, details, schedules, calculations, and supporting project documentation. Design and coordinate automatic sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, water storage tanks, fire hydrants, and underground fire water distribution systems. Create and modify Revit families, templates, schedules, views, isometrics, worksets, and print sets. Perform multidisciplinary BIM coordination, clash detection, and resolution with Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Process disciplines. Apply NFPA standards, FM Global Data Sheets, client requirements, and local regulations. Develop pipe routing layouts, riser diagrams, hanger details, equipment layouts, and system schedules. Review drawings, BIM models, and deliverables for quality, constructability, completeness, coordination, and code compliance. Coordinate and review work performed by junior designers, providing technical guidance and mentoring. Participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, site visits, and field investigations as required. May serve as Lead Designer or Job Captain on single-discipline assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree as Mechanical, Electromechanical engineering or related discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with emphasis in Mechanical design / fire protection design
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience as a Fire Protection Designer, Design Drafter, or in a closely related mechanical design role
  • Working knowledge of basic fire protection design principles, including automatic sprinkler and standpipe systems
  • Knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and standards, including relevant NFPA standards, building codes, fire codes, and local authority requirements
  • Ability to independently resolve design coordination and technical challenges
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments
  • Proficiency using computer-aided design and/or BIM software required for fire protection system design (AutoCAD and Revit)
  • Medium-High English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Travel required
