Job Summary
Fire Protection Designer independently develops fire protection system layouts, schematics, and detailed design drawings; performs calculations in accordance with codes; coordinates with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines; reviews equipment and system selections; responds to RFIs and submittals; supports permitting with AHJs; reviews shop drawings; assists field inspections; supports construction administration; participates in client/contractor/consultant coordination meetings; mentors junior designers; maintains project documentation and technical correspondence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Structural, or Architectural Engineering
- 6+ years of experience in fire protection or related building systems design
- OR Associate degree with 8+ years of relevant design experience under PE supervision
- OR 8–10+ years of practical fire protection or building systems design experience
- Strong understanding of fire protection codes, standards, and design principles
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit preferred)
- Experience performing engineering calculations and system layouts
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
