Fire Plans Examiner & Inspector

Job Summary
Review architectural plans and system shop drawings, and conduct technical inspections of commercial, multi-family, institutional, and industrial construction to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local fire safety laws. Perform fire safety inspections of places of assembly, business, industrial, institutional, and public food service establishments for existing or potential hazards, while inspecting fire alarm systems and projects under construction. Advise on hazardous field conditions, prepare reports relative to findings, order corrections, and provide follow-up inspections or enforcement as necessary. Maintain inspection records and statistics, and participate in meetings with contractors, developers, architects, and engineers. Exercise independent judgment and technical assistance on building projects, handling multiple projects in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Required Qualifications
- State of Florida Certified Fire Inspector license
- Experience as a Fire Plans Reviewer and Inspector
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, and governmental agencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Superior time management, organization, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
- Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information in software programs
- Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced atmosphere
- Extensive knowledge of international, state and local building and fire life safety codes and current construction procedures/technology
Desired Qualifications
- An Engineer or a Degree in Fire Science, or a Degree in Fire Prevention, is a plus
- A State of Florida Certified Fire Inspection II or III is a plus
