Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive fire inspections, investigate fire origins, and review construction plans for code compliance. Schedule and supervise staff while issuing citations for violations and managing the Fire Marshal Office budget. Coordinate with state agencies and the public to implement disaster preparedness plans and emergency operations protocols. Maintain certification and lead training sessions on fire suppression and prevention.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree desired or Associates Degree in fire science, fire technology, fire protection engineering or other closely related field
- Five years experience as a Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector within a municipality or equivalent industry experience
- Supervisory experience in a fire prevention setting
- Extensive knowledge of fire prevention principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
- Extensive knowledge of building, electrical, mechanical, and fire safety codes
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the general public
- Ability to work independently, organize many projects simultaneously, and prioritize work
- Knowledge of principles and practices of emergency management
- Certification as a Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector in accordance with Connecticut Statutes
- Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License, Class II
- Completed ICS 100, 120, 200, 230, 235, 240, 241, 242, 244, 300, 400, 700, 800, 2200
