Job Summary
Register for the City of Temple Civil Service Entrance Exam by September 2, 2026, and attend the written test on September 12, 2026, followed by the physical agility assessment at the Wilson Park Recreation Center. Submit required documentation, including DD214, TCFP certification, and paramedic licenses, to earn up to 13 points toward your written exam score. Upon passing both assessments, upload your Personal History Statement and supporting materials by September 18, 2026. Candidates must reside within 150 minutes of the Central Fire Station, hold a valid Texas driver's license, and meet all Texas Commission on Fire Protection requirements. Successful candidates receive a sign-on incentive upon hiring and sworn-in status.
Required Qualifications
- United States citizen
- At least 18 years old
- No history of conviction of a felony offense
- Good character and reputation
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Proficient reading, writing, and fluent speaking of the English language
- Meet all the requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection for licensing firefighters
- Meet all the requirements of the Texas Department State Health Services for Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic licensing
- Reside within 150 minutes travel time of the Central Fire Station
- Pass a physical examination designed to confirm the applicant's ability to perform the essential functions of a Firefighter
- Pass a Polygraph Examination
Desired Qualifications
- Military Service (Minimum 1 year active service with honorable discharge)
- Passed TCFP Basic Fire Fighter Examination
- Current/Valid Paramedic License
- TCFP certified
- One-year of paid firefighting experience
- Certified EMT or Paramedic by the State of Texas or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
- One-year of paid EMS experience
