Fire Director

Lead and direct the Fire Prevention Division from a remote-capable role in California, overseeing fire inspection services, fire code enforcement, plan review of building and fire protection systems, permit processing, and public fire safety programs. Provide leadership to fire inspectors, fire plans examiners, and administrative staff; set division goals, evaluate performance, and manage budgets. Oversee inspections of commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family occupancies; ensure compliance with IFC, California Fire Code, NFPA standards, and local ordinances; review reports and enforcement actions; coordinate corrective actions with owners and businesses. Manage plan reviews for construction plans, tenant improvements, and development projects; collaborate with building departments, developers, architects, and engineers; interpret and enforce applicable fire and building codes. Represent the department in hearings and legal proceedings; direct public fire safety education programs and community risk reduction efforts; coordinate with other agencies and stakeholders; support recruitment and hiring initiatives. Typical qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, extensive fire prevention and plan review experience, supervisory experience, and relevant certifications such as Fire Inspector II, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Officer, and Fire Marshal (preferred); valid driver’s license required.
