Job Summary
Manage crucibles and prepare samples for fluxing, fusion, and cupellation processes using furnace tools. Adjust flux based on sample matrices, follow up on rush priority workloads, and ensure all safe work procedures and standard operating procedures are strictly adhered to. Maintain and organize departmental inventory, including supplies and chemicals, while ensuring cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete. Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures to ensure analytical quality and comply with all ALS health and safety policies. Please note that ALS operates 24/7, requiring day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science
- Concentration in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences
- Completion of the BC Assayers certification program
- Minimum of one year Fire Assay laboratory work experience in a production oriented environment
- Familiar with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods
- Strong analytical and mechanical skills
- Intermediate English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel, Word and Outlook
- Safety oriented
- Able to lift up to 50lbs
- Able to stand for a full shift
- Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
- Be clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator)
- Undergo la lead blood test required every 6 months
- Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
- Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements
- Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa
