Job Summary
Maintain, repair, and service all assigned Fire Department apparatus and related equipment; diagnose repairs with software programs to determine failure and repair safely and effectively; perform and track preventative maintenance; may respond to road calls and operate equipment for repairs; conduct annual pump service testing; coordinate underwriters laboratory testing of aerial devices and ground ladders; maintain all necessary records and ensure engines and equipment are properly tested and meet standards; perform minor maintenance on breathing apparatus; communicate with equipment users and manufacturers; may perform minor service to alarm and intercommunications systems; administrative and operational errands; snow plowing, and other assignments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Vocational training in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, or two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of fire apparatus desired
- Requires ASE Master Truck Certification
- Must have a valid Connecticut Driver's License with 2Q Endorsement
- Must have or ability to obtain NFPA 1071 Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Professional Qualifications Certification within 6 months of hire date
- Must have or ability to obtain Scott SCBA Technician Level 1 and 2 within one year of hire date
- Experience in repair of fire apparatus and pumps, emergency lighting systems, fire equipment, radio systems, oxy acetylene cutting, welding, brazing, and electromagnetic arc welding and brazing
- Ability to understand and diagnose from electrical/hydraulic schematics and computer-aided repair manuals
- Must have the ability to work after hours if required
