Job Summary
Conduct preserve operations and prescribed fire activities while maintaining vegetation, monitoring species, and managing livestock. Operate various equipment and machinery safely, including chainsaws, UTVs, and ATVs, and assist in habitat restoration and facility maintenance. Work independently in isolated settings under variable weather conditions, requiring considerable physical exertion and adherence to a 30-day Work Capacity Test. Travel up to 25% of the duration across TNC and partner properties in Central/West Texas. This temporary, full-time role at Barton Creek Habitat Preserve in Bee Cave, TX, supports TNC's mission to protect lands and waters through on-the-ground conservation solutions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year's training in a science-related field or related experience in land management
- Experience recognizing plant and animal species
- Experience operating various types of equipment safely and efficiently (e.g. Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment)
- Experience working in a team environment
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required
- Valid driver's license
- Compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program
- Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement
- Passing the Work Capacity Test consisting of a three-mile hike, carrying a forty-five pound pack, within forty-five minutes
