Job Summary
Ignite prescribed fire operations including ignition, control, post ignition, suppression, and monitoring while preparing fire lines and maintaining equipment. Execute ecological stewardship tasks such as woody encroachment reduction, invasive species control, and preserve maintenance. Monitor community health indices and operate hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles. Maintain professional fire certification credentials and build relationships with local fire departments, non-profits, and state/federal agencies. Perform heavy physical work in variable weather, remote locations, and hazardous terrain under close supervision. Work a flexible schedule with crew housing provided, traveling statewide as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification for Introduction to ICS (I-100)
- Certification for Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180)
- Certification for Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190)
- Certification for Firefighting Training (S-130)
- Certification for NIMS: An Introduction (IS-700.B)
- Ability to achieve physical fitness standard as determined by local Fire Program Manager and the TNC Fire Manual (arduous pack test)
- Experience operating various types of equipment
- Ability to obtain related licenses or certifications as required
- Valid driver's license
- Good driving record
- Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues
- Must have valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program
- Must meet the requirements of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process
