FinOps Engineer

Job Summary
Own cloud cost reporting across GCP and AWS by building weekly, monthly, and ad hoc dashboards for engineering and business stakeholders. Drive cost optimization through rightsizing, committed use discounts, idle resource cleanup, storage lifecycle policies, and network egress reduction. Design and enforce a cloud tagging strategy with automated compliance checks while establishing showback and chargeback models for team accountability. Lead monthly FinOps review meetings to present spend trends, highlight anomalies, and recommend actions. Set up budget alerts, anomaly detection, and forecasting models. Partner with product and engineering to embed cost awareness early in architecture. Support day-to-day cloud operations including incident response, monitoring hygiene, and infrastructure health reviews on GCP and AWS. Contribute to Datadog observability dashboards and alert tuning. Participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews with a cost lens on root cause analysis. Work with platform teams on Kubernetes cluster efficiency and namespace-level cost attribution.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of cloud infrastructure or engineering experience
- at least 3 years in a dedicated FinOps, cloud cost management, or platform economics role
- Hands-on GCP cost tooling experience
- Proven track record of delivering measurable cloud cost savings
- Strong communication skills
- Experience building and maintaining tagging strategies and cost allocation frameworks
- Comfortable in a Kubernetes environment
Desired Qualifications
- FinOps Foundation certification (FOCP) or equivalent
- Experience with CloudZero, Apptio Cloudability, or similar FinOps platforms
- SRE or CloudOps background
- AWS cost management experience
