Job Summary
Finnish language-focused reviewer/editor responsible for translation, transcription, and interpretation of legally sensitive DOJ Linguistic Support Services materials. Tasks include translating documents and multimedia, providing court and deposition interpretation, handling highly technical and specialized terminology across medical, scientific, financial, legal, and extradition contexts, and maintaining strict confidentiality. Requires ILR 4+ proficiency, five years of recent experience in the language, and U.S. residence with eligibility for security clearance. Remote work option with possible travel; position involves working with English and Finnish-language materials while preserving tone and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- At least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or Green Card holder with SSN
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, diplomatic, casual modes
- Know specialized vocabulary related to government roles and missions
- Native-language fluency with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
