Finishing Dozer Operator

Job Summary

Operate a dozer equipped with GPS, laser, or sonic grade control systems to perform final/finish grading of earthwork surfaces to specified elevations and tolerances. Read and interpret grading plans, survey stakes, cut/fill sheets, and grade control data to achieve precise finished grades. Perform fine grading, sloping, and smoothing of surfaces to meet project specifications and drawings, minimizing rework and material waste. Coordinate with survey crews and project engineers to verify grade elevations and confirm tolerances are met. Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources. Read and comply with safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training materials, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals. Participate in a drug-free workplace with a random drug testing program. Includes per diem. Requires flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Operator 1: 2+ years of dozer operation experience, with exposure to finish grading
  • Operator 2: 5+ years of dozer operation experience, including finish grading to tight tolerances
  • Operator 3: 10+ years of dozer operation experience, including advanced finish grading and GPS/laser grade control systems
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to extend standing or walking on project sites
  • Ability to climb in and out of equipment
  • Ability to work in confined spaces or at heights
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to read and interpret grading plans, survey stakes, cut/fill sheets, and grade control data

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with GPS or laser machine control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon)
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER training
  • Competent Person Safety Training
  • 8-Hour Supervisory Training
  • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
  • First Aid and CPR
