Job Summary
Resolve problems or transactions requiring significant professional expertise to apply law, regulation, policies, and guidelines within the Financial Intelligence Unit. Investigate facts of moderately complex transactions or cases by organizing, reviewing, and analyzing large volumes of detailed information. Perform legal research, develop conclusions, and create or manage processes for complex transactions and cases. Design, maintain, and manage workflow processes, reports, tools, and databases while reviewing legal documents including contracts and pleadings. Interact professionally with internal and external clients, attorneys, and departments to exercise independent judgment within established policies. Maintain continuing legal education requirements and observe ethical rules under the Rules of Professional Conduct. Requires five years of experience in moderately complex legal matters and proficiency in online legal research.
Required Qualifications
- English (Required)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and related training
- Successful completion of an American Bar Association approved paralegal training program
- Certification by a State Bar approved paralegal certification program
- Equivalent working knowledge and experience
- Five years of experience working on moderately complex legal matters in a law firm or corporate law department or equivalent experience
- Significant understanding of legal concepts, terminology, principles and procedures
- Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify and define issues, establish facts, analyze moderately complex information and develop substantiated conclusions with minimal supervision
- Creative problem-solving skills with ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, seeking input of others as needed
- Superior communication skills with the ability to express moderately complex facts and legal principles clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to make fact-based recommendations in order to positively influence diverse teams and achieve desired results
- Strong relationship management skills with ability to work successfully and influence others across multiple practice groups and departments
- Substantial knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of legal research and writing with demonstrated proficiency in online legal research
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple projects that require interaction with multiple attorneys, departments and internal and external clients
- Superior organizational and project management skills; attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change as position, role, function, and structure of FIU evolves
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
