Job Summary
The Financial Counselor coordinates insurance verification and financial counseling for all patients within Tufts Medicine across outpatient, inpatient, and ED settings. It assists uninsured and underinsured patients in obtaining benefits to access care and to ensure reimbursement to Tufts Medicine. Responsibilities include identifying Medicaid eligibility and completing Medicaid applications, meeting with patients in ED or inpatient care, communicating with patients and families, collaborating with Case Management and Social Work, documenting in EMR, following applications from submission through final decision, assisting enrollment in Managed Care/ACO plans, Health Connector, COBRA, Medicare plans, Tufts Medicine Financial Assistance, and disability benefits when applicable. The role requires knowledge of hospital terminology, third-party plans and medical billing, and experience with hospital information systems; involves monitoring EPIC work queues and achieving productivity standards; frequent sitting and occasional lifting; strong interpersonal and documentation skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year hospital/health care experience in Patient Access
- CAC Certification within 4 weeks of hire
