Job Summary
Financial Counselor assists patients with the application process for Financial Aid and Care Pass Programs, including Medicaid applications and renewals, food stamps (SNAP), and related eligibility verifications. Responsible for obtaining payments or arranging payment plans, processing refunds and credits, coordinating with Case Managers and vendors, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA/PHI standards. Roles include advising patients on financial obligations, setting up payroll deductions where applicable, and training staff on process changes. Works as part of a patient-focused team to help patients understand hospital financial policies and access available programs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 to <2 years experience
- Knowledge of Medicaid/SSI/SSD/FINA processes
- Ability to explain financial policies to patients
- Team-oriented
- HIPAA/PHI compliance
