Job Summary

Design and scale a mature finance function from the ground up, establishing automated financial systems, robust internal controls, and reliable reporting workflows to support global expansion and institutional financing. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while overseeing accounts payable, receivable, invoicing, collections, expense management, treasury, and cash reporting. Prepare accurate financial statements, support audit readiness, and handle corporate tax filings and statutory reporting obligations. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for executive leadership, utilizing modern tools and AI-enabled workflows to reduce manual effort and increase operational speed. Report directly to the CFO with mentorship on board materials and investor relations, operating in a hybrid environment in Ottawa, ON.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • CPA designation
  • Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Experience preparing accurate financial statements and supporting audit readiness
  • Experience with corporate tax filings, statutory reporting, payroll remittances, sales tax, and other recurring compliance obligations
  • Experience managing or supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, expense management, treasury, and cash reporting
  • Experience using modern finance tools, workflow automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve accuracy, reduce manual work, and increase speed
  • Eligible to obtain (or hold) a Government of Canada Level II (Secret) security clearance
  • Strong accounting judgment and the ability to maintain accurate, compliant, and decision-useful financial records in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to design, implement, and scale practical finance processes, internal controls, reporting workflows, and financial systems
  • Ability to manage close, consolidation, revenue recognition, tax, remittances, audit readiness, and multi-entity financial reporting as the company grows
  • Ability to improve financial operations across AP, AR, invoicing, collections, expenses, treasury, and working capital management
  • Ability to use modern systems, integrations, automation, and AI-enabled workflows to reduce manual effort and create a lean, scalable finance function
  • Ability to support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow modelling, budget-versus-actual reporting, and financial analysis for leadership
  • Ability to communicate clearly with executives, department heads, external advisors, auditors, and other stakeholders
  • Strong ownership mentality, sound judgment, and comfort operating in an environment where processes are still being built
  • Hybrid work model that offers the flexibility to work from home while coming together in the office once or twice a week

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a high-growth technology company, service-based business, government contracting environment, defence contractor, or similarly complex operating environment
  • Experience supporting M&A evaluation, due diligence, or post-transaction financial integration
  • Experience with SaaS, software, professional services, government contracts, or hybrid revenue models
  • Experience with ERP implementation, finance system migration, or optimization of tools such as Rippling, HubSpot, expense management platforms, or similar systems
  • Military veteran or direct experience working in defence, national security, public safety, intelligence, or other high-trust operational environments
