Job Summary
Financial Care Counselor duties include accurately completing patient accounts per departmental protocol and compliance, determining insurance requirements prior to service, arranging payment options, obtaining authorizations, documenting billing activities, explaining bills, assisting visitors/patients with financial matters, analyzing coverage and benefits, reconciling cash and third-party sponsorships, and directing patients to financial counseling. The role emphasizes high-volume billing/collection processes, adherence to local policy and regulatory guidelines, and effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff to ensure proper payment and financial assistance pathways within the Duke Health revenue cycle.
Required Qualifications
- Two years experience working in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office or billing and collections.
- An Associate's degree in a healthcare related field and one year of experience working with the public.
- A Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public.
