Job Summary
As a Financial Accountant based in Sydney (Australia), you will be responsible for regulatory and statutory accounting for Swiss Re's Australian and New Zealand operations. Key duties include preparing quarterly and annual regulatory returns under IFRS 17, compiling annual statutory financial statements for Australia and New Zealand, maintaining the general ledger with consolidation and month-end close, reviewing reconciliations and intragroup retrocession arrangements, supporting APRA planning and coordinating with external auditors, and assisting with CPS 230 outsourcing controls. You will drive process improvements and AI-enabled workflow adoption, support finance transformation initiatives, and ensure internal controls and governance standards are met. Stakeholder management with auditors and cross-functional teams, plus collaboration with a global finance group, are essential. The team emphasizes innovation and flexible work arrangements within a hybrid model (office presence at least three days per week). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with a professional accounting qualification (CPA or CA) preferred
- Experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting, ideally within life insurance financial reporting and experience with IFRS 17
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with sound decision-making skills in complex financial environments
- Proficiency in general ledger management, including reconciliations, consolidation activities and regulatory reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
