Field Welder (Traveling)

Job Summary

Conduct high-quality welding on structural steel, storage tanks, piping, and industrial components using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes. Read blueprints, interpret weld symbols, and prepare materials by cleaning, fitting, grinding, and aligning parts. Operate welding machines, torches, grinders, and power tools while inspecting completed welds for quality and safety compliance. Maintain a clean work area and collaborate with supervisors, fitters, and other trades to meet project schedules. Travel extensively to project sites across the United States, working extended hours, overtime, and night shifts as required. Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 80 pounds and working at heights up to 70 feet in outdoor environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of field welding experience in industrial construction, structural steel, or storage tank construction
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SMAW (Stick) welding
  • Ability to pass applicable welding tests and certifications required for assigned projects
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to designated reporting locations
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively for project assignments
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and client-required screenings, including drug testing when required
  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, night shifts, or swing shifts as needed to meet project schedules and customer requirements
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 80 pounds
  • Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods (8–12+ hour shifts)
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for prolonged periods
  • Reach overhead and work with arms extended
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and structures up to 70 feet above ground
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when required
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
  • Frequent travel and overnight stays are required based on project assignments

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience welding aboveground storage tanks
  • Experience with structural steel erection or industrial piping
  • Current AWS or other applicable welding certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification
  • NCCER credentials
  • Experience operating aerial lifts, forklifts, or other construction equipment
  • Ability to perform basic layout, fitting, and fabrication tasks
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
