Job Summary
Field Technician II responsible for on-site data-center and POP support, coordinating with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance. Requires deep hands-on experience deploying physical layer rack and stack configurations, site surveys, testing, and adherence to telecom industry quality standards. Travel required; duties include coordinating with LECs and technicians, performing site audits, managing vendor relations, and contributing process improvements to enhance network asset quality and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 2 to 5 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of data center and POP infrastructure, including experience with OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and rack/cabinet/cage construction
- Familiarity with installing and maintaining telecom/network equipment including DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical/digital infrastructure
- Understanding of splicing and operating within manholes, vaults, or handholes; experience with telecom testing equipment (microscopes, power meters, OTDRs) and testing across SONET/Ethernet bandwidths
- Knowledge of telecommunications testing standards/procedures (length, wire-mapping, BER, power, delay, loss, reflectance, dispersion)
- Knowledge of state/local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements
- Ability to work with LECs, telecom service provider technicians, landlords, electricians, and construction operators
- Ability to work independently, diagnose problems and take action with minimal supervision
- Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications
- Physical ability to perform office tasks, mobility around sites, and effective communication
