Job Summary
Field Services Student Intern at the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District), working in the Regulatory Support Bureau in Sarasota, FL. Support regulatory, permitting, and compliance activities by drafting professional correspondence, compiling and analyzing data, comparing construction activity to approved plans to identify deviations, attending meetings on regulatory matters, routing citizen inquiries, assisting with environmental compliance inspections, and contributing to research for permitting and compliance efforts. The internship offers on-site development opportunities, with duties including preparing letters/reports, data review from files/databases/maps, and coordination to achieve team goals. Compensation is $16.00 hourly. Work is located in Sarasota with a typical schedule of up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This role is not eligible for remote work, involves field and office activities, and may require infrequent travel within the District’s coverage area. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited program, maintain required GPAs, and possess a valid driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include GIS experience and related environmental science or engineering degrees.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least part-time and currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
- Valid driver’s license

- GIS experience
- Have at least one year remaining in their respective program
- Have the availability to work near the maximum allowable hours weekly
- Preferred Degrees: Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or other related Physical Science degree
