Field Service Technician

Job Summary

Perform new unit start-ups at customer locations nationwide and worldwide on Vapor Power steam generators and thermal fluid heaters. Assist clients with troubleshooting controls and circuits while providing field service at their sites. Conduct burner combustion and operation testing on production units at the factory prior to shipping. Write technical documents and electrical system descriptions for customer instruction manuals. Provide phone support to customers when assistance is needed and complete weekly trip reports. This role requires approximately 80% to 90% travel, with trips generally lasting less than five days. Candidates must possess strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, experience with PLC and HMI devices, and the ability to read wiring and piping diagrams.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with writing, loading, editing, and troubleshooting programs for PLC controllers and HMI devices, preferably using RS Logix500
  • Must have excellent electrical and mechanical trouble-shooting skills
  • Must be able to read and follow electrical wiring diagrams and piping diagrams
  • Must be comfortable using hand tools, test meters, and a combustion analyzer to set the fuel/air ratio of fired burners
  • S work authorization required
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas in the facility and access all machinery
  • Must be able to read and follow electrical wiring diagrams and piping diagrams
  • Must be able to read and follow electrical wiring diagrams and piping diagrams

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with and enjoy working with PLC and HMI devices
  • 3 years working with PLC and HMI devices preferred
  • Experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley controllers is preferred
  • 3 years' work experience in fields related to the required skills and preferred education
  • Experience servicing boilers, burners and steam generating equipment is helpful
  • HVAC background helpful
  • B. S. Degree or A. S. Degree in an Engineering Technology field is a plus
  • Equivalent/related military training focusing on servicing hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices, combined with electrical troubleshooting will be considered
