Field Service Technician - Services and Commissioning

Job Summary

Lead field commissioning teams to execute pre-commissioning, energisation, and grid connection activities for Battery Energy Storage Systems, including PCS inverters, BMS, transformers, and SCADA infrastructure. Supervise engineers and subcontractors to meet milestones while configuring, troubleshooting, and approving test plans for battery strings and protection systems. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers and grid operators, conducting root cause analysis and ensuring full compliance with Health and Safety policies. Provide on-site mentoring, manage competing priorities across marine, oil and gas, and industrial sites, and report progress on risks and technical issues. Significant travel is required, potentially up to 90% domestically or abroad, including offshore vessel deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • Electrical engineering bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years of field commissioning experience on power systems, energy storage, or similar electrical infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated leadership of field teams (3+ engineers/technicians) on commissioning or construction sites
  • Solid understanding of Power Electronics, Electric Power Systems, Medium Voltage, battery chemistry fundamentals, and power conversion topologies
  • Experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and energy management systems (EMS)
  • Knowledge of transformers (MV/HV), protection relays, and switchgear commissioning and testing
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and communications protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, IEC 61850)
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Good literacy in at least one computer programming language
  • Hands-on experience with test instruments (recorders, power analysers, oscilloscopes, insulation resistance, HI pot, battery impedance testers, etc.)
  • Willing to travel including distant in-country or abroad for extended commissioning periods and with short notice in advance
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety, and risks/hazards involved in high-voltage and battery storage environments
