Job Summary
Perform scheduled maintenance on electric power generation equipment including gas and diesel engines, generators, and fire pump engines at customer locations. Use independent judgment to repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems while documenting work orders and communicating parts needs. Respond to customer needs in a positive, supportive manner and collaborate with other technicians on troubleshooting repairs. Work safely following company policies, adhering to physical requirements for lifting up to 60 lbs and operating equipment. Maintain a clean work environment and service truck, and be willing to respond to after-hour emergency calls. Requires Class A CDL and DOT medical certification for this safety-sensitive role.
Required Qualifications
- 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field
- high school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical, electrical & diesel maintenance/repair
- some field experience
- Knowledge of electricity and electronics
- engine diagnostics
- failure analysis
- Previous experience working on Caterpillar engines
- Possesses the ability to diagnose all equipment without supervision
- is also able to read, follow, understand, and communicate schematics
- Ability to write and communicate effectively
- interact with supervisors, customers and team members
- Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
- Own mechanic tool set
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment including service truck
- Willing and able to respond to after-hour emergency calls as directed by the supervisor
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record
- Class A CDL or willingness to obtain one within a defined period
- Obtain a DOT medical certification card
- Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen & physical due to the role being deemed safety sensitive position
- Able to operate equipment safely
- Push/pull up to 50 lbs
- Lift/carry up to 60 lbs
- Lift bulky objects
- Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box
