Field Service Technician-Network Specialist

Job Summary
Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain telephone equipment, fiber optics, copper facilities, PBX systems, and central office switch devices for new and existing customers. Respond to dispatches, locate defective cable using test equipment, and perform advanced troubleshooting for telecommunications products including Key Systems, Centrex, and DSL. Manage project installations, maintain facility logs, and provide high-level support for record systems and cross connects while educating customers on TDS services. Reside within 60 minutes of the Whitestown, Indiana warehouse, perform pole climbing and operate heavy construction machinery, and work overtime or swing shifts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years technical telecommunications experience
- current/prior military service with honorable discharge
- 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training
- valid driver's license
- ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of >10,000 lbs
- ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions
- reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Whitestown, Indiana warehouse
- ability to dig, lift and climb
- ability to operate heavy construction machinery, such as bucket truck, drop plow, and backhoe
- willingness to work overtime as needed
- willingness to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate
- ability to work and make decisions independently with little or no supervision
- demonstrated customer service and sales skills
- effective communications skills (verbal and written)
- proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task
