Job Summary
Troubleshoot IP cameras, access control systems, and network infrastructure on service calls at schools, hospitals, factories, and commercial sites. Diagnose PoE issues, VLAN misconfigurations, and hardware failures while working directly with customer IT departments to isolate problems. Test and repair structured cabling by identifying bad terminations and incorrect mappings using cable testers. When service volume is low, support project teams on larger commercial and new-construction jobs, including pulling and terminating CAT6 and fiber, installing hardware, and hanging cameras. Operate under a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts, earning weekly pay with a company vehicle provided for service calls.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to think critically in real time, research solutions in the field, and make sound decisions based on equipment limitations and customer needs
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major access control platform (Brivo, Paxton, S2, RS2, Avigilon, Genetec, Kaba, or Kantech)
- Experience with IP cameras and basic networking: PoE, VLANs, IP addressing, and subnetting
- Proficient with cable testers and diagnosing physical layer issues
- Good written and verbal communication—you can explain technical problems to IT staff and non-technical customers clearly
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in commercial environments (schools, hospitals, factories)
