Job Summary
Field Service Technician in IPS PowerServe performs testing and maintenance on low, medium, and high voltage power distribution equipment for commercial and industrial clients, including testing (Doble, insulation resistance, transformer turns ratio), cable testing (Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, Hipot), circuit breaker & switchgear testing, primary/secondary injection testing, protective relay testing, and power quality/diagnostics. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting, inspections, replacements, recommissioning, safety adherence (LOTO), customer communication, documentation of work, and contributing to a strong team environment. The role offers a training program to obtain required certifications and qualifications, with an hourly pay rate of $30-$85 and benefits (PTO, 401k match, tuition reimbursement, health plans, EAP, etc.). The position requires travel, flexible hours, on-call readiness, and a valid driver’s license. IPS emphasizes safety, integrity, teamwork, and customer focus, and operates across North America and the United Kingdom.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power or equivalent
- Some testing experience of low and medium voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers and/or protective relays
- NETA Certification highly preferred or equivalent skills/experience to become NETA Certified
- Power DB experience a plus
- 3+ years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, operating manuals and safety guidelines
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime and weekends; willingness to be on call
- Must have at least 3 years of experience operating a vehicle with a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
