Job Summary
Install, configure, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial access control systems, including controllers, card readers, electric strikes, and magnetic locks. Diagnose wiring, power, and network issues while verifying life-safety operations and documenting low-voltage cabling per code standards. Replace door hardware, support PC-based kiosks and video surveillance, and provide on-site, telephone, and remote technical support with end-user training. Conduct site surveys, coordinate with customers and dispatch, and complete service reports, inspection forms, and time records accurately. Participate in scheduled on-call support for after-hours emergency requests.
Required Qualifications
- Three to five years of hands-on experience installing, servicing, or troubleshooting commercial access control systems
- Strong practical knowledge of access control wiring, controllers, card readers, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, power supplies, relays, electric locking hardware, and system commissioning
- Experience troubleshooting access control issues at the device, wiring, power, network, configuration, and software levels
- Familiarity with commercial door hardware, including electric strikes, magnetic locks, electrified exit devices, closers, hinges, and related components
- Experience pulling, terminating, labeling, and testing low-voltage cable in compliance with applicable electrical and building codes
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, basic IP configuration, and connectivity troubleshooting
- Ability to safely and confidently use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and mechanical equipment required for field installations and repairs
- Professional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers and document work in detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to use mobile applications, dispatch systems, and electronic service forms
- Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a company vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work above shoulder height, bend, kneel, and perform physical field work
- Ability to manage time effectively, travel throughout the assigned territory, work independently, and complete assigned work within scheduled timeframes
- Must pass a NON-DOT Drug screening
- Must pass a Criminal and Credit Background Check
- Must pass a Driver License Check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise access control platforms, networked controllers, remote management software, and multi-site customer environments
- Experience with analog or IP video surveillance, PC-based kiosks, digital signage, or other self-service systems
- Manufacturer certifications or formal training in access control, low-voltage, networking, door hardware, or related systems
- Experience providing customer training, conducting site surveys, and supporting project installations from startup through final acceptance
