Field Service Engineer

Job Summary

Travel overnight up to 75% of the time to customer industrial sites to work on continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) equipment, including sample lines, probes, and instruments for opacity, NOx, SO2, CO, CO2, O2, NH3, flow rate, Mercury, and Particulate. Climb ladders and stairs to reach stack platforms up to 150 feet high for repairs and maintenance. Interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals for new system startups, certifications, and preventive maintenance. Provide detailed documentation reports of work performed and technical data determined through testing instrumentation. Maintain strong customer relationships during emergency repairs. Associate's degree, 3-5 years of instrumentation experience, and ability to climb heights are required.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (AA/AS.), certificate or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • At least 3-5 years of related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to calculate numbers and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • 3-5 years' experience working on instrumentation
  • Preference for experience with opacity, NOx, SO2, CO, CO2, O2, NH3, flow rate, Mercury and Particulate instruments
  • Working knowledge of test equipment, repairs and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and other means to reach stack platform where instruments and probes are located
  • Climb could be as little as 25' and as high as 150'
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Must be in good physical condition
  • Must be able to work around moving mechanical parts in a moderate weather and humidity
  • Must be able to work in high precarious places
  • Must be able to work around fumes or airborne particles
  • Must be able to work with exposure to loud noises
  • Must be able to work with risk of electrical shock
  • Must be able to work with vibration
  • Requires clear vision and ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Background and drug testing likely required for site entry safety requirements
