Job Summary
Field Service Engineer I in Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division delivering technical expertise for field startups, startups for standard and custom switchgear systems, and performing warranty claims, remedial repairs, and preventative maintenance within the assigned territory. Responsibilities include startup, preventative maintenance, testing, repair, and advanced electrical services on generator paralleling controls and switchgear systems; travel up to 75% and on-call service needs; training internal technicians and external customers; collaborating with the Product Support Center to troubleshoot issues; supporting dealer service and sales teams; submitting reports and maintaining project documentation; staying current with training and identifying opportunities for product improvements; reading electrical schematics/blueprints and applying engineering standards; and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Preferred/required knowledge includes power systems, PLCs/HMIs, and distributed control systems with experience in Modicon/Schneider, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or GE platforms; HMI tools such as FactoryTalk, Siemens, Vijeo, iFix, or Wonderware; and U.S. Navy Nuclear Power electricians are highly preferred. Remote (U.S.-based) with up to 75% travel; relocation assistance available; visa sponsorship not available. Posting includes location-specific states in the U.S. (AL, FL, GA, LA, NC, SC, TN).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET)
- Minimum 2 years of related experience
- Valid driver’s license
