Job Summary
Field Service Engineer I in Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division delivering technical expertise for field startups of standard and custom switchgear systems. Responsibilities include startup, preventative maintenance, testing, repair, and advanced electrical services on generator paralleling controls and switchgear; maintain high customer satisfaction across a defined territory; support on-call service needs (75% travel); train internal technicians and external customers; collaborate with the Product Support Center to troubleshoot issues; gather feedback for new product opportunities; read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints; apply data analysis and problem-solving to improve efficiency and quality; communicate technical specifications clearly; ensure proper documentation and reporting; preferred Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience; remote (U.S.-based) with substantial travel; relocation assistance available; visa sponsorship not offered.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) or equivalent
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineers, contractors, consultants, and end users
- Knowledge of power systems, including switchgear, ATS, and generator systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints
- Experience with automation and controls including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems
- PLC experience with one or more: Modicon/Schneider, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or GE
- HMI experience preferred (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk, Siemens, Vijeo, iFix, Wonderware)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements
- Remote (U.S.-based) with travel up to 75%
