Job Summary
Conduct accurate, timely, and well-sourced research on federal government coverage, including the White House and Congress, while developing unique story and guest ideas. Fully report stories from briefings, conferences, and events, tailoring complex topics for broadcast and digital audiences. Organize field shoots, interviews, and live shots by managing planning and logistics for the team, and gather elements from affiliates, agencies, and social media. Build live hits, segments, and packages with well-written broadcast scripts, acting as the conduit between the field team, show team, and assignment desk. Cultivate sources for up-to-the-minute developments and assist in daily and long-term personnel and editorial scheduling.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree
- At least five years broadcast or digital production experience
- Background in reporting, research and writing
- Must be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice
- Must be willing to work in Washington, DC but travel as needed domestically and international
- Understand importance of social media and social newsgathering
- Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all network personnel
- Operate newsroom computer systems
