Field Power Generator Technician

Job Summary
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on standby generator systems ranging from 5 kW to 3200 kW, including major component repairs and load bank testing. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel and gas industrial engines, specifically CAT systems, while reading wiring diagrams and interpreting control logic for automatic transfer switches. Troubleshoot AC/DC control systems and emergency repair situations, providing excellent customer service to internal and external clients. Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and adhering to proper procedures. Participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in the backup generator industry or related field
- Experience with diesel engines, generators, or heavy equipment
- Familiarity with Caterpillar (CAT), Cummins, Kohler, or Detroit engines
- Knowledge of Tier 4 / aftertreatment systems
- Ability to troubleshoot fuel systems and engine controls
- Strong ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
- Intermediate or higher-level computer skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation schedule
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school
- Five plus year's heavy equipment experience or equivalent education and experience
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Caterpillar (CAT), Cummins, Kohler, or Detroit engines highly preferred
- Knowledge of Tier 4 / aftertreatment systems is a plus
