Field/Office Engineer - Central District (Entry-Level)

Job Summary

Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews, prepare work plans, and conduct quality inspections while ordering materials and assisting with field surveying and safety reviews. Perform takeoffs from contract documents, execute basic engineering calculations and technical drafting, and generate change orders and as-built data. Assist with entering data into the job cost system, review cost reports, and maintain project recordkeeping including submittals and daily reports. Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations while documenting schedule progress for 3-week and 90-day updates. This entry-level role within Kiewit's Central District supports heavy civil and transportation projects across the Rocky Mountain, Midwest, and south-central regions. Candidates must be willing to travel and relocate as business requires, working rotating schedules, shift work, or weekends as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to travel and relocate to small and large cities as business requires
  • Must have valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to and from work
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines
  • Work overtime and weekends as required

Desired Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related degree preferred
  • Infrastructure/Heavy Civil project experience preferred
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time including working rotating schedules, shift work, or weekend work as required by projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, and taking initiative
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
  • Strong time management ability and attention to detail
