Job Summary
Field Municipal Staff Engineer in Newark, NJ; assist with observing construction activities for municipal and utility infrastructure projects across New Jersey, monitor contractor work for plan/permit/standard compliance, prepare daily field reports and document progress with photos, maintain project records for payment applications, coordinate with contractors, municipal representatives, and utility companies, attend construction meetings, verify materials and workmanship meet requirements, support review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders, monitor schedules and communicate potential delays, observe job site safety, and assist with closeout activities including punch lists and final inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field required
- Internship or co-op experience in construction, transportation, municipal engineering, or utilities is a plus
- Interest in municipal infrastructure, construction inspection, and field engineering
- Basic understanding of construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as needed
