Job Summary
Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and minor equipment repairs on fleet vehicles while traveling to project sites across Iowa, including occasional overnight stays. Diagnose mechanical issues using visual inspection or computer diagnostic equipment, maintain service records, and conduct safety inspections in compliance with DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations. Provide oversight for less experienced mechanics and ensure accurate completion of repair orders and weekly timesheets. Respond to emergencies outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays, with a company vehicle, fuel card, and lodging provided.
Required Qualifications
- Three to five years of experience in general mobile heavy truck repair, automotive repair, or equipment repair
- Completed a vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair with four years of experience
- Proper licensing to drive
- At least 18 years of age
- Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment on a daily basis
- Reliable and have a strong work ethic
- Proven ability to work independently and without direct supervision
- Good teamwork skills to work effectively with coworkers
- Ability to communicate effectively to converse with employees, read orders and work instructions, and make accurate entries in the daily log
- Basic computer or data entry skills
- Solid experience using mechanical tools, materials, and testing equipment
- Solid knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment
- Ability to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures
- Good understanding of applicable regulatory guidelines and rules
- Must be available for local travel mainly in the state of Iowa (may include occasional overnight)
- Must be available to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours
- Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays
