Job Summary
Perform mechanic assignments using independent judgment to apply procedures to specific work situations, including servicing, repairs, and preventive maintenance on fleet equipment. Frequently travel to customer job sites for repair and maintenance, identifying mechanical problems visually or with diagnostic tools while maintaining records of time, materials, and job conditions. Conduct safety inspections, prepare documentation, and ensure compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines. Provide oversight for less experienced mechanics and participate in training programs to maintain current safety skills. Respond to emergencies outside regular hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays as required.
Required Qualifications
- three to five years of experience in general mobile heavy truck repair, automotive repair, or equipment repair
- completed a vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair
- four years of experience (for candidates with vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship)
- Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment on a daily basis
- Must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be reliable and have a strong work ethic
- Proven ability to work independently and without direct supervision
- Good teamwork skills to work effectively with coworkers
- Ability to communicate effectively to converse with employees, read orders and work instructions, and make accurate entries in the daily log
- Basic computer or data entry skills
- Solid experience using mechanical tools, materials, and testing equipment
- Solid knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment
- Ability to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures
- Good understanding of applicable regulatory guidelines and rules
- Must be available for local travel mainly in the state of Iowa (may include occasional overnight)
- Must be available to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours
- Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays
